Turn artwork into
multicolor SVG layers.

Upload a JPG, PNG, or SVG, remove the background when needed, create 2–6 printable color layers, or export a single solid silhouette SVG to define a custom lightbox shape.

6
Choose how many color-separated SVG layers to make. Fewer colors are easier to print; more colors preserve more of the original artwork.
Graphic
Dominant flat-fill color detection, raw-alpha edge preservation, and tiny-artifact cleanup for logos/graphics.
Off
Leave the uploaded image unchanged.
1000
Higher values capture smaller edge details but create heavier SVGs and take longer to process. 800–1200 works well for most graphics; use 1600–2000 only when fine details really matter.
2
Removes isolated dots and tiny color islands. Increase this if the preview has little stray pieces; lower it if small intentional details disappear.
1
Cleans up jagged pixel stair-steps before vector tracing. Higher values make edges smoother but may soften very small corners.
0.35
Controls how closely the final SVG follows every tiny contour change. Lower values keep more exact detail; higher values make cleaner, lighter paths. About 0.25–0.45 is a good starting range.
NEW
Creates one solid black SVG from the artwork. Transparent images are traced directly from their original alpha edge; solid-background images use the processed background-removed preview. It is meant only to define the outer shape of a custom lightbox — not the printed artwork.
Background matters: if the image already has transparency, leave Remove Image Background OFF — the silhouette tool will use the existing transparent edge directly. If the image still has a solid background, that background becomes part of the silhouette. For a shaped lightbox, turn on Remove Image Background first and generate the preview. Interior holes are automatically filled so the silhouette stays one solid piece.
Logo-aware vector engine: dominant flat-fill colors and sub-pixel contours are preserved, tiny artifacts are removed, intended straight logo runs are detected across multiple contour points and emitted as exact SVG lines, while real arcs use constrained quadratic curves and deliberate corners stay exact.

Free Multicolor SVG Layer Generator for 3D Printed Lightboxes

The BIGFPRINTS Multicolor Layer Tool converts PNG, JPG and SVG artwork into aligned color-separated SVG files for multicolor 3D printing. It is designed for lightbox artwork, logos and other flat graphics that need clean, registered color layers for MakerWorld and OpenSCAD workflows.

How the SVG layer generator works

Upload your artwork, optionally remove its background, choose between 2 and 6 colors, preview the detected layers, and download the generated SVG files as a ZIP. Graphic/Logo mode is optimized for flat artwork and preserves dominant fill colors while reducing small edge artifacts. Each exported color uses the same registered canvas so the layers remain aligned when imported into a compatible 3D model.

Made for multicolor lightbox designs

The exported SVG layers can be used as artwork for multicolor 3D printed lightboxes and similar projects. SVG dimensions are written in millimeters for predictable OpenSCAD sizing, while the shared canvas keeps multiple colors registered to the same artwork position.

Frequently asked questions

What image formats can I use?

The tool accepts PNG, JPG and SVG artwork.

How many SVG color layers can I create?

You can generate between 2 and 6 aligned color layers from one image.

Is the multicolor SVG generator free?

Yes. The BIGFPRINTS Multicolor Layer Tool is free to use in your browser.

What is Graphic / Logo mode for?

Graphic / Logo mode is intended for artwork with flat colors, such as logos and lightbox graphics. It prioritizes dominant fill colors and removes small classification artifacts before vector tracing.

Can I use the SVG layers with OpenSCAD?

Yes. The exported layers share the same registered canvas and use millimeter SVG dimensions for predictable sizing in compatible OpenSCAD workflows.
